This is an excellent curriculum! It is based on different genres of writing. Each chapter is covered in one month, with each chapter focusing on a different genre of writing. The first two weeks of the month consist of a two part lesson each day. First part informs students of characteristics of each genre and teaches key writing skills. Second part of the lesson focuses on grammer skills. After two weeks it switches to a writers workshop. THe entire writing process is broken down over 2 more weeks to help the student practice writing piece in the genre that has been studied. At the end of the month they have a finished written work which you keep, and compile a portfolio for the student throughout the year. The genres are practical and interesting. My children liked the formal letters unit because they worked hard on a topic they cared about and mailed out an actual copy of their work. They even recieved replies! Quite exciting! They also enjoyed writing persuasive articles. I found the units to be very practical and useful for the future. I will stick with this program.
I forgot to mention that there is a small oral presentation exercise in each chapter, so once a month is presentation day. THis is fun, and they really enjoy preparing visual aides.
The curriculum is a bit pricey, but worth it.
