My dd is 13 and in the past 2 years she has received the fashion books made by Klutz called Paper Fashions and it comes with these great stencils, colored fancy paper and more and they design their own fashions. They've since added 2 more books to the line. At the end of the summer, she bought another klutz book where you make jewelry out of shrinky dink paper - sounds lame, but really the projects turn out great and gets the girls thinking and designing and you can easily get more supplies - and sometimes it turns into more fancy jewelry design. My dd has created 2 big scrapbooks full of fashion designs where she has named them (think Gymboree line names) and has asked for a new thing that came out called Hamuto/Hamukoto - something "Ham" that you use fabric to make designs but she was only interested in the bridal one. The klutz books really are great and if you use your coupons you can get them really cheap!
Also, nail polish stuff, even the stick ons to make the fingers fancy (like flowers, etc.) which you can find that aren't too cheapy/cheesy looking are fun!
PJs have been mentioned and even a fun pair of slippers.

well, this MIGHT' be more than you want to spend, but if you add up all the 'little things", you might, instead, consider getting her one NICE THING INSTEAD: a beginner sewing machine.
Every girl who is 11 or 12 LOVES to learn to sew and it's a life-long skill...we got our oldest daughter a super nice Simplicity machine on ebay for $69 a few years ago...(found it for $89 in store and cheaper on line)...sHE LOVED IT! and now, at the age of 24, she has four machines, a serger, and an online business in which she's making 80K per year. (no kidding)....

well, we have something in mind for our dd when she gets about that age. a hope chest. we plan on going with courtship, and so we have already started broaching the issue, and i had told her that when she got older we would find a hope chest that we could start collecting things in, for when she was a mommy and wife. we would like it to be a pretty one, and my dh will probably make it from cedar. she may use her for her treasure chest while she is younger, but when she gets older, im sure she will start to use if for other things.
