Cloth pads ?

Cloth pads ?

I remember many months ago a discussion about cloth menstrual pads on this board. I was just wondering if anyone has tried them. Do you like them? What brands have you tried & which ones do you like best? Thanks!

re: Cloth pads ?

I like them but that is in part because I developed an allergy to some chemical in the disposables. I have a number of brands. I have lunapads, happy heinys and a couple of others that I can't remember. The lunapads are the ones I go to last. I find them bulky and uncomfortable.

re: Cloth pads ?

I have them and have been using them for about 5 years - now that my daughters are also using them the savings is about $20/month (or more). I make my own. It is very easy to use recylcled fabric (i.e. flannel, t-shirts, old towels, felted wool), not to mention the cost savings. The felted wool acts like a waterproof barrier. My initial investment was $3 at Goodwill, buying the largest flannel shirts I could find.

If you go to tipnut.com - there are directions and patterns for many styles.

I would not go back to disposables.

I've been using them for several years now. My DD got me started with them. I like Perfect Pads best, and I have them listed on my site now, along with chemical-free disposables.

re: Cloth pads ?

Thanks everyone! I will check into the brands that were mentioned. There seem to be quite a few brands out there. (There were a great deal more than I thought there would be when I did an internet search.) Thanks again.

re: Cloth pads ?

My dd and I have used them for several years now. Love them!

I don't like any that contain fleece as it doesn't clean as well as cotton. I have a few GladRags cotton, but I also have tri-folded infant prefolds which I like much better. Prefolds are way cheeper and hold more. I just use light support undies to keep them in place. If you trifold the wrong way it is thicker in the wet zone.

re: Cloth pads ?

So what you wear these and wash them or throw them away? how do these work? lol I wear regular store bought ones and sometimes have to change a few times a day so Im a little confused...

Which ever kind you use (cloth that is) you do NOT throw them away. That is one of the good things about them. They are reusable therefore more economical and *green* . You wear them just like you would any disposable pad. They snap on instead of glue, or in the case of tri-folded prefold diapers they lay in. When it is time for a change I put mine in a diaper pail (use a covered bucket of some sort). In a couple of days I wash them in the washer. I do a prewash with cold water, then a full wash with hot water. Dry in the dryer, or line dry, and they are ready for wearing again. :)
