Our shower has a foul odor coming from it. It drains well. No smells from anywhere else. It's a sickly sweet smell hard to describe. I have drain-Od twice, used tons of baking soda and febreeze. Nothing works. When I tossed baking soda in I could hear the plop of standing water but dh says some standing water is normal, he thinks.

Any ideas?

Mine turned out to be a dead animal. The plumber had to cut into the wall to get it out. At any rate, I'd call a plumber.

Maybe after putting baking soda in there add vinegar?

Could you have mold in the walls or in the floor boards? I thought our bathroom smelled from sewer gas, but then we removed some tiles around the toilet and there is black mold. My mom had the same issue. She scrubbed and bleached and nothing helped. When they remodeled, they took out the sink/vanity and there was mold behind it.

you've got stagnant water in the drain pipe. the water needs to be flowing freely through and out..and it's not.

can you clean it out some how?

We have a septic tank and we're having an odor from our drain last year in the shower. The local plumber told us to try hot hot water with a touch of bleach. He said if that didn't "cure it" he would come out and take a look. That worked for us.
We are also able to take the shower drain cover off and look inside ours. Are you able to do that? Maybe a blockage?

I don't think it's mold, it doesn't have that kind of smell. I hope it's not a dead animal. Don't see how it could be. The house is only about 5yrs old. I tried to remove the drain (this is a stand alone shower, not a tub) but couldn't get it off. I did try bleach also. It took the smell for about a day, but then it came back. I guess there is nothing for it but to call a plumber.

get a screwdriver and 'pop' the drain up....and then, run some water and plunge, plunge plunge..you probably have a huge hair clog or something which is impeding water from draining all the way. BtdT...use drano too.....
