What faith are you? (or aren't you?)

re: What faith are you? (or aren't you?)

This is a fabulous thread. But I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know what half of these denominations are. (Insert red-faced smiley) I wonder if there's a denomination history lapbook.

Catholic "revert."

I was raised Catholic. My parents were the types who just clocked in at Mass on Sunday, though, so it was really easy for me to lose my faith by the time I was a teen. Public school really did a number on me, so by the time I was early 20s I didn't believe in God at all.

Enter Protestant husband. I accepted Christ as my savior, attended church and bible studies, etc. It was during those couple years that I began to see the scriptural basis for all the beliefs I'd learned as a Catholic. So, it was back to the Catholic church for me.

So blessed, and so glad to be able to really wrap my kids in their Catholic faith. To be able to pray with them daily, having a daily devotion time, and a Christ-centered education. They are so much more stable in their faith than I ever was!

Try The Handbook of Denominations. We have found it very helpful in school as well as for general info.

Raised as a Christian. Plain and simple. Now it has become commonplace to hear people say they are Christian who just want to identify with a faith without really making it their own, because let's face it- the Christian faith is probably one of the easiest faiths to be a part of without having to do anything and still be accepted. Just about every other faith requires a lot of actions to show true belief, yet Christians only have to say they are and maybe go every once and awhile to church and unfortunately in the U.S. lukewarm Christianity is often OK. For me the hard part is that many I know who are like this don't actually have a personal relationship with Jesus. :-(

So you know I guess I am a born again believer in my Lord Jesus Christ and that just about sums it up.

re: What faith are you? (or aren't you?)

I was raised confused (Methodist, Catholic, and Lutheran). Started attending a Nazarene church my senior year in highschool where I met and married dh. When our oldest ds was 4 we left the Nazarene church and have since been Apostolic Christian. (www.apostolicchristianchurch.org)

I'm kind of like everyone else -- I'm a Christian first - but I attend a Southern Baptist Church. I live in an area that is predominantly Southern Baptist, but in college I attended a non-denominational church that I really liked.

My husband was raised United Church of Christ, but became a Southern Baptist when he was around 20.

re: What faith are you? (or aren't you?)

I was told I was catholic when I was a child. I was made to go through first communion to make Grandma happy, but my parents never set foot in a church other than that day or for weddings of relatives and friends. My dh was raised Catholic, and since getting married we've tried Catholic and Luthern. In the end neither works for me. I'm not sure about dh's beliefs anymore so I won't speak for him but over the past 2 years I've come to be what some would call and agnostic atheist. I don't believe there is a deity, but also will offer up that I have no proof of this.

I was raised and have always been a Independent Fundamental KJV Baptist.

My husband was raised Southern Baptist.

We are trying to find a balance with both in a church. So we are looking for a church home.
