Here was a cool idea in another thread
"Have a brainstorming session with someone else where you throw out all kinds of crazy ideas and write them down. Don't evaluate, just think of crazy ideas and get as many as possible written down. Can you rent out a room in your house? Return some things to the store that you bought that you don't use or don't need? Can you tutor other people's children to make money?"
Let's do it!
DOG WATCHER If you live in a warm place and have a fenced in yard this would be easy. You'd just keep the dog while people go on vacation. You could put up ads at vet's offices and put ads in the paper. Maybe you'd get a crazy rich person to pay you for daily doggy day care!
YARD SALE
CHILDREN'S MINISTER I can't do this because I can't be out at night, but I think a church would pay a 'Children's Minister' to teach the children Sunday school type stuff while the adults to Wednesday night Bible study and have revivals and things. I think that job would be really fun - and you could bring your children.

Go to college and get a degree that can actually be turned into a career.
Always write the check for more at the grocery store and pocket the difference so DH won't know. (Oh, you wanted legitimate ones.)

LOL minniewannabe2! When I first started reading your second suggestion I thought you were being serious. I actually do stuff like that. If you get a few bucks cash back or write a check over for a few bucks and then stash it away, it adds up. I don't do it to hide money, I keep it away for emergencies. It has come in handy on a number of occassions and you don't miss a few bucks here and there.
I'm also looking for ways to make a few extra dollars to help with bills and Christmas shopping. Looking forward to reading more responses.

I've been doing the following lately:
selling books on half.com (no listing fees..far better than ebay)
selling stuff in Craigslist...stuff in our garage that we dont' need. (just sold a woodstove for $80)
donating stuff to Goodwill (earn tax deduction..money later)
taking nice clothes (prom dresses from my girls, etc) to consignment shops.
re-gifting stuff that's nice but we don't need it here.
and also, I think a BIG WAY to make money is to NOT SPEND IT. I try to do that! I also look for ways to be VERY SAVVY with shopping, taking tax deductions, making-do on less..

I have a few friends who actually teach other people's kids in their homes along with their own children. It seems to work out really well for them. One of the ladies is really popular in the community. She has her own academy and has done so for years. She has 4 kids, but only one left at home and she makes a very nice salary for her services. Even though her academy is ALWAYS full, she still gets calls daily from people wanting someone to "homeschool" or "tutor" their kids. These people pay her $125/week, their school week is only 4 days long and they are out of school at 12:30 daily. She is really good though and her students always do well on our state's test and on their college admission test.
I think if I ever wanted to teach professionally again, I'd choose to do this as I could keep my kids home and have more control over what I'm teaching and how.
Just a thought... Alexas
