Seems like an awfully long day to me, but if it works for you it's perfect. Do first graders have language or spelling yet or is that second grade?

re: Our day..........Am I doing enough?????

Well; my 1st grader does spelling. She is reading very well and to me it makes sense to do spelling along with reading. Why does my day seem long to you? I am concerned it is not enough. We don't use a timer or even really go by the clock. When I feel she is ready to move on we do. Also; she likes to work on a few things and then take a break so that is why it goes well into the afternoon too.

I think it looks pretty good. She's only in first grade, I wouldn't want to add more to overwhelm her. As long as she's learning and enjoying it, I think it looks good.

My kids are 12, 7, and 6. They are in public school. My husband has temporary primary custody of the children because when we separated (he kicked me out) I was a stay home mom without a job. The judge granted my husband Temporary Primary to Dad since he had a job.

Anyway, I am still in shock 1 year later. I had to move to Oklahoma to live with my mother to emotionally recover from the loss of my children. When angry husband hired an expensive Plano, TX Lawyer....the judge and Texas Divorce Decree states that we should co-parent in Texas. Husband was evil and cruel and would not be flexible in allowing me to see my kids. On certain days he was say angrily at his front door, "This is not your day of possession!" and would shut the door in my face. Because of this I was so emotionally abused that I could not hold down a job and trying to find another job during the employment recession was impossibloe. What can I do to regain custody in Oklahoma? Texas Law states you cannot take kids from Texas to another state until they are 18. I have no money, and no lawyer. If any of you are stay home moms please be careful in Texas. As this can happen to anyone. We are Christians and this is all a shock. Any advice will be appreciated. Please e-mail me with any advice or encouragement. I need prayer.

With my ds (1st grade) we also do spelling. It's part of his phonics/reading lessons. He is not a strong reader (still reading simple CVC words) but adding in the spelling words have helped his reading (& handwriting!).

That said, your actual time "schooling" is about 2-3 hours a day. We still break our day up into 20-30 minute sessions because ds loses focus. That's what works for us. We also do not do formal science or history at this age either. We do read science or history related books, though. I feel that's sufficient for this age.

I think your day looks fine. If it's working for you, stick with it. It looks like you have all the basics covered. :)
