The typical summer fiasco has hit

The typical summer fiasco has hit

Yep that's right the upstairs central A/C stopped working. Yes it's the same darn day that it stopped working last year. Last year they said it was low 3lbs of Freon, this year in April I asked the landlord to do a premptive strike and have them come out for a check up. It was low 1lb of Freon, well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that's not a good thing and there must be a leak. The A/C tech says "We'll come back to recharge it when it's the right season" I guess when it's hotter than snot and so humid it feels like you could drink the air and the thing stops working may be the right season, but I don't know for sure because I can't seem to get a hold of my landlord!

I noticed that the outside fan unit is not turning on so I'm sure it's more than just a leak, but I'm also pretty sure that they find someway to put a bandaid on it instead of replacing it because that would be Cheaper! Maybe if they would have complained about the goofball that did the check up and never came in the house to observe the complaint about low air flow and not much cooling then they'd have been able to get things squared away when it was just mildly hot out instead of when it's peak season and you have to wait forever to get someone out to help you.

The downstairs unit is working hard to keep it somewhat comfortable in here, but I'm not sure if I should leave it on or turn it off and open the windows up. Tomorrow is not going to be fun when the sun comes up.

Thanks for letting me whine

Send your landlord a formal letter so you will have the complaint on file if a problem arises later.

My DH is keeping our house so cold right now, I'm thinking about trading places with you. You wouldn't mind a few alligators, bobcats, snakes, disobedient puppy, and lots of driving would you?

Aw, Kelly, I'm sorry. We just had a new heat pump put in. Let me tell you that I love it! :)

re: The typical summer fiasco has hit

Hi Ladies,
Well we made it through the night, and at least the downstairs with a fan blowing up the stairs has helped cool it off just slightly but not much.

The landlord did email me last night and should be calling me soon. I should also probably clarify that my landlord isn't the bad guy in all this the goofball repair men the warranty company keep sending seem to be. My landlord is a Navy pilot which makes him hard to get a hold of sometimes, but he really wants this fixed to because he's sick of having to call people out here to do the bandaid repairs too. I guess he's like me and at the mercy of the repair man, we don't know much about A/C so we have to take their word for it when they say what the issue is.

I wish we had a need for an air conditioner. It hasn't even been getting into the 70's here! And on the rare occasion when it does, it is raining:(

How's your A/C?
Ours goes out frequently here too.
Hubby's been nursing our oldies along for a few
years now. I wish we rented and we could
have someone else deal with it! I hope you're cool
and doing well now.

Sorry,
Forgot to come back for an update.

Well after fighting with the company on the phone my landlord finally got them to come out. Of course this was Thursday when my kids were supposed to be at gym for free gym time and they were really upset, but at least they showed up this time. Last time we dealt with this company they didn't show up at all because they were trying to call my landlord in NV to see if I was home.

Turns out it was a bad capacitor and we're up and running again, although the system was down 1lb of freon again. My landlord said he'll have them do a leak check in fall and he'll try to find an better company to do it.

At least we now have A/C and it actually seems to be working a bit better, more air flow from the vents, which is nice.

I just hope it lasts through the season now.
