The author the pp was referring to is Marguerite Henry-She has the Misty series and others. Great books.
Also for horse lovers-the Black Stallion series.
How about "A Wrinkle in Time" & the rest of that series by Madeleine L'Engle. There's also some others by Louisa May Alcott that my daughter loves-"Eight Cousins", "Jack & Jill" , "The Quiet Little Women-A Christmas Story".

I agree w/"Anne of Green Gables" There are also some other books by LM Montgomery that we've discovered that my daughter enjoys.
We also just finished reading the original "Winnie The Pooh" books by A.A. Milne & all my kids loved those-even the 12 yr old!
