So, we decided to mummify a chicken...

TutanChickan, AmunHenRa, and ChickHoTep.

Hillarious! We've been searching for the perfect name and I bet one of these will be the winner!

We found the "recipe" in the story of the world ancients guide, but you can google "mummified chicken recipe" and get the instructions. It's very simple, lots of salt + some baking powder, baking soda, alchohol (rubbing or drinking, we used wine just like the Egyptians), some kindof oil (we'll use grapeseed) and whatever spices you'd like to use. It's a bit of a lengthy process (about 6 weeks or so), but it's not difficult.

We did this about 3 years ago and King Cluck is out in the storage shed still doing great! We run across him when we are getting the Christmas decorations out every year. The kids loved doing this project! I changed out our salt one time but when I did it I bought a 25lb bag of salt and filled a 5 gallon bucket with it and put King Cluck in it and didn't have to change it again! I didn't like the changing!

Have fun, this is a great project!!

Am I the only one who failed on this????

I couldn't bring myself to change out the salt. It sat and sat on the shelf. The kids forgot about it and lost interest. Then one day I quietly whispered to dh - "just throw it away." I was too "chicken" to open the box to see if it had worked.

Maybe I'll try again one day.
