* College English 101 Writing & Comp (ex-library book from a thrift store), working through this very slowly, probably across two years. * Winston Grammar, lightly, for review. * English Handbooks, for reference (ABeka, R&S, BJU). * Various literature selections from Christian Cottage. * Writing prompts from CC + ones I make up from our lit selections and Bible reading. * Vocabulary from CC, plus various vocab words added in from whatever we are reading or discussing. * Handwriting practice sheets (ds does not think he writes well, so this is for review; I disagree and think his handwriting is pretty good, but if it's important enough to him to want to add this in, I figure why not!). * We're going to start some type of word roots soon.

My two oldest have done BJUP Writing & Grammar and BJUP literature. It is a solid program and they have done well--one is in college and does LOTS of writing (even gets paid for some). My oldest also did one semester of IEW's Advanced Communication Series along with the AP Guide to Newswriting, and research writing since he loves to write! The other one (a senior this year) will do the same in lieu of the final year of BJUP W&G.
My 3rd son this year is doing one semester of CLE grammar (he wanted to do something that would hit grammar hard and then we're planning to drop formal grammar--it will still be *used* and reviewed, though). Then he is going to do one semester of selected SMARR literature studies. He prefers the whole book approach rather than anthologies. We'll see how it goes. He also does speech and debate which require a lot of research and writing. The change isn't because there is anything wrong with BJUP. This is just a different kid with a different bent. Also, we did BJUP lit with the satellite. Since we don't have that anymore, their lit is harder for us to use.
We have not done separate vocabulary studies, but have used the vocabulary from literature or other subjects.
Next year I'll have two high schoolers again. IF I go with MFW's high school program, English & Lit will be covered and integrated there. If not, assuming Smarr goes well this year I plan to stick with that for my ds. My dd (9th grade next year) I'm not sure about if i don't to with MFW. She likes to write but needs to be pushed for literature, so that will be my challenge for her. Might go with BJUP, Smarr, or something different for her.
All of them will cover writing, grammar, vocabulary, research skills, poetry, American Lit, British Lit, etc. in some form during their high school years. They will earn credit for English and Literature each year.
