when is a students first book report appropriate?

when is a students first book report appropriate?

I have a third grader and we are using MFW ECC so far we are happy with MFW. I was wondering when students generally do there first book report? we use r&s english and im confident that neither MFW or R&s will assign this so i assume i will have to assign it on my own seperatley at some point...any ideas on when or how to go about this?

My 4th grader is using Abeka Language A and she is learning the writing process and encyclopedia report, book report, and oral report right now.
I think it is a good age to expect a decent one page report.

R+S will cover book reports, I just don't remember when they do the first one. 4rth grade sounds about right to start a simple one.

re: when is a students first book report appropriate?

I had my dd do a couple of book reports in 1st grade just for fun; they simply involved writing the title and author and drawing pictures of her favorite parts. Now she's in 2nd grade, and in addition to what she did on the 1st grade book reports, she also has to write a sentence or two. She's done one report so far this school year. I figure 4 or 5 book reports this year at the most. She reads lots and lots of books, but I'm wanting to keep most of that fun and not require anything. She really enjoys the book reports though! My 1st grade ds is still learning to read; maybe later on in the schoolyear I'll have him do the simple drawing book report, but it's not a priority this year.

Mine is in 3rd and were using CLE 2 Language. She just had her 1st book report last week and did great! I think 3rd is the right age to start.

"Building With Diligence" (4th grade) teaches book reports.

Why were you "confident" that R&S wouldn't teach that??

I'm not all that concerned with book reports per se. I don't think that writing a book report is an important writing skill. However, the Love to Learn Place has some *excellent* book report forms for which I can actually see a purpose:
