anyone use singapore & Rod & Staff math together?

anyone use singapore & Rod & Staff math together?

can you share how you use these two programs together?

re: anyone use singapore & Rod & Staff math together?

We just do a lesson from each program each day. (Right now we are actually using MEP math (free math program from the UK) instead of the Singapore though). I don't try to line up concepts. Just do the next lesson! R&S helps cement the math facts, and Singapore/MEP are great at teaching them to THINK mathematically.

I would do the same, just do the next lesson each day.
I too use R&S to keep cementing the basics. It's great!
I would love to use it as a stand alone, but I'm afraid it might be missing some things they "need" for 3rd grade. ~sigh~

I use three math programs because I like different aspects of each. My daughters complete a lesson in Saxon, a lesson in Singapore and a lesson in Rod and Staff or Horizons each day. (2nd grader uses Rod and Staff, Kindergartner uses Horizons).

I like Saxon because it offers lots of practice in a broad range of concepts concurrently.

I like Singapore because it challenges my children to think in a way Saxon does not.

I like Rod and Staff because it better helps to cement those math facts than the either Saxon or Singapore.

I like Horizons for Kindergarten.

How in the world, do you get your children to do that much math? My son is in tears over one math program. I can't imagine doing Singapore and R&S Math. BTW, I'm asking because I just set aside Singapore 2A so we could work on R&S Math 2 for a while.

I don't know.... it doesn't seem to be a struggle for us. At least not now. They're both pretty good at math so much of what they are doing is not a tremendous challenge at this point (They are working on grade level Saxon, and R&S). The Singapore is a little more challenging, but one lesson a day is fine. I will likely have to cut back on the amount of math once they move up a grade/level. Time wise we do about an hour of math per day. I researched a lot of curriculum and was impressed with the ideas presented by The Robinson Curriculum. He suggests an hour of math a day, and I definitely see the benefits. We will likely stick with the hour a day for math, but as difficulty in concepts increases the number of lessons completed may decrease. I understand that this regimen would not work for all families, but it does work quite well for us. Switching back and forth between Saxon/Singapore/R&S would probably have similar results and I may have to do that at some point when the work gets to be more challenging for my dd's.
