I would just let him write. He can always go back and make corrections of his own work. I think that's a great way to learn : )

Definitely. If he loves to write, let him. Just sneak the grammar lessons into his writing.

ITA! Address any grammatical mistakes as they pop up in his writing...and let the rest go.

I used to think you had to teach grammar every year. My oldest is in ninth grade and this is our LAST year of grammar! Can't believe we did it this long! My 6th grader is using Abeka Lang/Grammar and this will be her last year with it also. Next year I am switching her to LLATL and whatever is in there as far as grammar that's it!

Thank you! This has been on my mind also. I have been wondering if it was time to stop grammar now that my boys are in middle school and just concentrate on writing. Grammar would be secondary; maybe once a week. Right now, grammar is 3 times a week with composition 1 to 2 times a week. I decided to stop grammar until our Christmas break and then just write, write, write. (Or in their case, type, type, type because they prefer to type a composition than write it out.) I still want to do a grammar review once weekly, but I think the writing ability should be stressed more now that they are in middle school. And honestly, when I was in school, I remember suffering through grammar and hitting high school still not knowing how to write an effective paper. Thanks for bring this up.
