Saxon math ?/MUS

Saxon math ?/MUS

Is the Saxon 7th gr. level pretty much a review of 1-6 levels? Could the 7th gr. book be easily skipped and go right into the 8th gr. book? If we skipped it, would we miss a lot of new stuff?

My dd's are so far behind in math I'm thinking of starting my oldest (14) in Saxon 6/5 and my 12.5 yo in 5/4. I'm trying to figure out how to work this so they are up to par by graduation. Neither of them plan on going to college, MAYBE a trade school for dog grooming.

We are using MUS, which I think is a great program, but I think we need to switch. MUS is not the reason why they are behind, it's all my fault. 14yo is half way thru Gamma. If we stayed with MUS, how could I get them caught up with that? Do several lessons per week year round for the rest of their life?! (just kidding!) but they would have to go year round at a fast pace. They have a hard time learning the math facts, that's what slowed us down, plus at times we stopped math for a bit. Please help!!!

With Saxon, you start wherever your dc fit on the placement test. Don't even try to figure it out without it, lol.

Yep - ignore the funny numbers on the front of the saxon books. Have each child take the placement test and use that info to figure out the right book.

The Saxon recommended sequence is 5/4, 6/5, 7/6, 8/7 OR prealgebra 1/2, then Alg 1, Alg 2, etc. I wouldn't skip the 7/6 book if that's where your dc places into. But it really is all about the placement tests, not grade level.
