We do her daily work (religion, handwriting, math, and 1/2 language arts) in the a.m. She breaks mid-morning for a quick class at school, then in the afternoon finishes up w/a 2 to 2-1/2 hour time block of either ss or science. She loves it because it really gives her a chance to delve deeply into topics of interest. In the evening, she does the remainder of language arts for homework. We reserve Friday afternoons for field trips, research, and such. So far, this seems to work well.
We had debated upon doing both SS and Science daily, but one of her chief complaints about ps was that she "had to stop and do something else just as it started to get interesting." We never hear that now; she is so excited about learning now, and seems to be learning so much more.

We do Bible Language and Math everyday. We do S.Studies on Mon and Wed. we do Science on tues and Thurs.

We do LA and math daily history M and W Science T and F
Thursday is our off day because of outside gym classes for the little guy, but that will change come Jan.
Last year we did a week of history then a week of Science and it worked out great. I don't know why we switched back to the alternating days, I may go back to alternating weeks when we get back after winter break.

We're doing just the opposite, but in short, tiny bites. Every subject is done in 15 minutes or less, everyday. I wanted to throw this out to you as another option, because it still gives plenty of time to run off on tangents of interest. This is for 5/6th grade, however, and I don't know if we'll still be able to keep it up for high school.

The only thing we alternate is Social, Health and Science. I would not recommend doing that with the 3r's. Math, English, reading, writing. They are so important! Kris
