Treadmills question

re: Treadmills question

I agree with Minniwannabe. We bought Dance Praise last year, the Christian version of DDR, and it is so much fun! We all love it and we never get tired of it.

For some reason, I can't get into treadmills. But I like the Leslie Sansone walking workout DVDs. Much less expensive than a treadmill, and certainly easier to store! (grin) I actually think it's a better workout overall as well. Just a thought.

Good for you for wanting to keep things active in your home - I think our boys especially need this to get fit and work on self-discipline.

re: Treadmills question

I have a treadmill. Dh bought it for me after Ds2 was born, but I've just now started to really use it. At first Ds4 was just turned two, and I wouldn't have it on when he was awake. Now all of my children know to stay well away from it. I have 3, a 6, 4, and 2 year old. None of them are allowed to touch it even when it is unplugged. I think they are too dangerous (my grandmother broke her shoulder blade on one, and she was an adult), so we do a "never" rule. That makes it less likely they will accidentally come too close when I am walking. I didn't catch your kids' ages. If they are older, I don't think it would be a problem if you taught them safety rules.

Like the pp, I like the Leslie Sansone walking DVD's. I burn more calories on a treadmill, especially at a good incline, but the DVD's work more muscle groups. I actually like walking on the treadmill. All those different stats keep my mind busy. If I walk this far at that pace it will take this long....

re: Treadmills question

I have one I bought from Walmart a few months back. It is a Golds Gym 450 and I LOVE it! It was about $375.

As for safety, I keep the clip on top of the fridge. It can not be turned on without the clip inserted. I put it in when I'm using it and as soon as I step off, it goes up. That way I don't ever have to worry about anyone turning it on when I'm not looking. I do let my 5 yr old and 4 yr old use it sometimes. But, only if they have shoes on and I'm standing right there with them. HTH!

Thank you! This is all such great information that I didn't know about treadmills. It is good to know all this as I research....thank you!

re: Treadmills question

I just wanted to put this out there...would an elliptical interest you? We owned a treadmill and it serviced well but died out after 5 years. It was a motorized treadmill with a clip. What I noticed was that my knees were starting to hurt and looked into other alternatives for a cardio machine. We ended up getting an elliptical and we love it! We have had it for 6 years now, and I no longer experience knee pain.

What about the Wii Fit instead? It's easier to use and fun. We love ours.
