What's up with the search function?

What's up with the search function?

O.k., I am getting a weird message when I try to do a search on here?? Administrators, would you please address this?

Thanks!

re: What's up with the search function?

if it is helpful, the error is

Unauthorized access to internal API

re: What's up with the search function?

for those not following the closely related thread and need a work around

However, the work around is to not the search box on this site, but to let google do the work for you. Google can do a site search for you.

To do a site search, go up to google search box and follow along like this:

in google search bar you'd do something like this

site:http://homeschoolreviews.com termyouwantofind

where the termyourwanttofind will vary. it's not what you type, but what you enter.
like this for a search I did yesterday to find where user "faithmom" shared a text from college son about iew writing. I put in her username and search term because I wanted her posts specifically.

site:http://homeschoolreviews.com faithmom iew text

I have been having the same problem. ggrrrrr.

I thought it was just me.

Agree with cbollin's suggestion -- works well! :)

The search feature here has never been very good even at its best. It appears it's now behaving at its worst. ;)

nah, that specific error also said to follow a link to google help for the solution and it's clearly something for site to do, not the user.

for those curious...
Please refer to https://support.google.com/customsearch/answer/4542055

It then says stuff that is meaningless to me as I'm not a site admin person, but I understood enough that it's nothing a user can fix.

This error is an indication of trying to directly access the Custom Search Engine’s internal API (‘v1element’). Please use the code snippet found in your CSE control panel. Learn more about Custom Search Element V2 setup.
For programmatic access use the public CSE JSON API.

and yeah, agreeing with others who said before the error the search box wasn't great to begin with. you know, software and such changes over time, so stuff is going happen. Oh well, at least we still have each other for a while longer :) (meant as fun way to say something nice)

re: What's up with the search function?

Thanks!

I saw the thread about this after I posted. So, I will just use the google for now. Hopefully, it will get fixed though, as it was handy dandy in the recent past! LOL!
