Movies about people on the moon???

Movies about people on the moon???

For 2nd and 4th??

re: Movies about people on the moon???

We just got done reading a bio about Neil Armstrong. We watched a couple youtube video clips that I randomly selected.

A movie mine have liked about rockets (not necessarily moon landing) is October Sky. There is some foul language in it, though.

Another movie we really liked was about a class of special needs kids going to space camp. Smile as Big as the Moon.

A funny one about space is The Reluctant Astronaut. (This is purely for fun....)

re: Movies about people on the moon???

Our favorite is Apollo 13, but for middle school and up. Do not recommend for the ages you need.

re: Movies about people on the moon???

Probably not for your ages, but I saw an ad for a new movie out called Hidden Figures and I though of this thread.

As I understand it, it is about 3 women who were behind the space program that have gone unmentioned all this time

Moon (2009), The Dish (2000), Apollo 13 (1995). These are all good movies.

That movie was my first thought I had about this thread as well. My 21 y.o (who is a woman in math/engineering field) had free tickets to an advanced screening. She loved it. But doesn't think she would have cared as much at the ages mentioned. oh, she got the tickets from whichever stem student group she's part of.

but yeah, I never heard there were any women (of color or white) who were math/engineers (computers) for Nasa during the space race. and I never heard that people were given the job title of "computer" meaning one who computes.

with that said, maybe a clip on Nasa's website in the video gallery where Katherine Johnson's grand daughter took her 7th grade classroom on a Nasa field trip would be nice
go here and look for "Hidden Figures to Modern Figures: Students see SLS rocket..."
https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/videogallery/index.html

and check out other NASA space mission videos while there. It may not be what singingranch was looking about 1960s space race. but short clips of modern NASA stuff can be fun too.

nasa does have footage of apollo 11 mission as well as others from the time. here... play around

edit to add this link to other clips

I haven't watched all of them for suitability. That's parents job. :)

for anyone interested in the Hidden Figures movie and real info.. my dd sent me this link to a recent interview with Katherine Johnson if you care to read it.

I'm looking forward to reading the Hidden Figures book. I want to see the movie too -- it's just that I love learning all the details which can't be covered in a movie.

OP, have you seen the video of the Apollo 8 broadcast while orbiting the moon on Christmas Eve sometime in the sixties? This was shown in dd's BJUP Earth Science course, and she was totally thrilled by it.

I'm sure you can watch it on YouTube. This is the transcript of the astronauts' remarks:
